Nas semifinais do Australian Open, em Melbourne, o espanhol Rafael Nadal bateu Roger Federer, num clássico do tênis, em cerca de 3h e 40 minutos, e garantiu seu lugar na final do campeonato. Por 6/7(5), 6/2, 7/6(5) e 6/4, Nadal, número 2 do mundo no ranking da ATP, viu o suíço dar adeus à uma partida que, no início, poderia parecer já ganha por Federer. Nem favoritismos, nem partidas vitoriosas anteriores, mostrando um domínio maior de Federer frente a outros adversários, conseguiu ler o final do jogo frente ao espanhol. Previsões de “bolas de cristal” de experientes no esporte, que já julgavam Nadal “finito” ainda no começo da temporada do ano passado, devido a uma lesão sofrida, e queda no rendimento inicial de 2011, tiveram que encarar o fato de que número 2 não é número centésimo no ranking, e engolir a vitória de quem mostrou que ainda entende do jogo, e de sabe ser eficaz na quadra. Agora, com a derrota para o alemão Florian Mayer hoje (13), quinta, no Masters 1000 de Xangai, e sua consequente eliminação, Nadal não pode disputar mais a posição de número um no ranking da ATP com Djokovic, e o sérvio, então, garante o posto mais alto na lista dos tenistas profissionais até o final de 2011. German Florian Mayer won the match this thursday (13th), and said bye bye to the spanish charming-player. With Nadal defeated, Djokovic guarantees the number 1 position in ATP list, until the end of 2011. Posing with his celebrations-cake (number 1) made specially for him in july, Djoko, 24 years old, sometimes called an “android” (robot), due to his iron-will, technical preparation and focus to win (check it out, he almost doesn´t blink during a match), he can breath safely, even facing treatments for an injury in his hips. A well-deserved rest in a fancy Spa, until december 31st? Maybe. But he doesn´t seem like he is going to rest. January 1st starts with the fight to know who will get the number one cake in 2012.
